Writing Suno Style Prompts That Actually Work
A great Styles prompt is specific but tight. Here's what to include and what to leave out.
What a Styles prompt is for
The Suno style prompt describes the music and vocals — not the lyrics. Think genre, tempo, key instruments, production feel, and the character of the voice.
Keep it comma-led and concrete. 'Upbeat synth-pop, ~118 BPM, bright analog synths, punchy drums, warm female lead with airy harmonies, glossy radio production' reads clearly to Suno.
Be specific, then stop
Specific details help, but an overloaded prompt dilutes focus. Pick the handful of elements that define the track and trust Suno for the rest.
The generator keeps the Styles field under Suno's character limit automatically, so you never paste something that gets cut off.
Use the Exclude field
List what you do not want — for example 'no heavy distortion, no screaming vocals, no lo-fi tape hiss'. Steering away from unwanted textures is often as powerful as describing what you want.
